DHL Express announced on Tuesday that it placed an order for eight new Boeing 777 freighters, with first deliveries expected in 2022. The agreement between DHL Express and Boeing also includes an option for the purchase of four more freighters.

'Although the current health crisis has pushed pause on several areas of life, global trade did not stand still...With the order of eight new wide body freighter aircraft, we underline our conviction that e-commerce is an enduring megatrend,' DHL Express CEO John Pearson said.

The latest deal comes on top of DHL's order for 14 new Boeing 777F aircraft from 2018. So far, 10 airplanes from that order have been delivered.
